Project Description: Transit Oriented Mixed-Use Development

HSQ Group, Inc. was the engineering firm that provided civil design services for the overall Brownsville Transit Village development. This multi-phased project consisted of 467 residential apartment units throughout five (5) mid/high rise buildings with first floor retail components. The community will also include a master parking garage facility and several playground amenities. The civil design work included several major utility infrastructure improvements. The existing water distribution system will be upgraded to a 12” water main extension that will be installed within Northwest 53rd Street and Northwest 29th Avenue, along the entire length of the project site. Due to the Transit Oriented elements of this project, the existing bus bay and drop off lanes adjacent to the Brownsville Metrorail Station (Northwest 27th Avenue) will be reconfigured/reconstructed as part of this development. Permitting and coordination with several agencies was required on this project including; Miami-Dade Transit, Florida Department of Transportation, Miami-Dade Public Works, Miami-Dade Water & Sewer Department and D.E.R.M. Another challenging aspect of this project were the deadlines for both design and permitting due to the Federal funding that was involved in the financing of this development.
